Plan Efforts¶
In Allegra, the duration of an item and its planned effort are initially decoupled. The coupling arises in Allegra in the Occupancy View.
Attributes for effort planning¶
Allegra uses the Earned Value Method for effort planning (see The Earned Value Method). For effort planning and tracking, three values are available in the Effort/Cost tab of each item:
Budget: the default estimated effort in the baseline plan (optional)
Planned: the estimated effort in the plan
Remaining: the estimated remaining effort to complete the item
Efforts are for work and costs. Expenses are not planned for the cost of labor, but rather for materials and services. The internal representation of the work effort is always in working hours.
The conversion of working days to working hours is based on the assigned workspace calendar.
Relationship between work, duration, and resources¶
The intended approach to planning in Allegra is to first identify the durations and dependencies of the items and then allocate the resources.
Attention
For work, you should always use the estimated remaining work. If today’s date lies between the start date and the end date, the remaining duration, i.e. from today to the end date, is used. Otherwise, the entered duration is used.
The relationship between work, duration, and resource usage (i.e., percentage of resources used) is the following:
Resource Occupancy = Remaining Work / Remaining Duration.
Note
There is no calculation in the opposite direction, i.e. work and duration are not adjusted, if the resources are changed.
